Condolence: It is with special fondness that I remember my great Philosophy Professor dr. Van Sant. I took courses from him from 1962 until 1966. He always encouraged questions and discussions in the true Socratic method. He was beloved and made Philosophy fun.

Condolence: I just learned today that we had lost Van. I admired Van very much. He was a really good man..a man's man..who worked continuously throughout his life to serve his God, his country, his community and anyone in need. One would have to search long and hard to find a man who had accomplished anywhere near what Van accomplished. He will be sorely missed by all. We love you Milena

Condolence: I am saddened to learn of Dr. Van Sant's death. Although it has been forty years since I was in his philosophy class, he has been on my mind often recently. His lectures were wonderful and one of the most rewarding of my classroom experiences. As I hear more of online courses, I cherish the memory of his teaching. His lectures opened my mind in a wonderful way. You could not leave class without sharing his love for the great Philosophers,as well as knowing the true pleasure and inspiration of his teaching. I feel blessed to have been one of his students. Great professors leave great memories and influence our thinking and lives. I always remember him for exactly that.

Condolence: George Van Sant was a friend to all, mentor to many, counselor, loving father and husband, and, always, a proud Marine. He was a solid rock of a man who spent every waking moment looking for ways in which to help others, and to better his community and the state. He lived by example and never spoke ill of others. He always thought of those less fortunate and worked hard to end all forms of discrimination. Our lives are richer in so many ways for the time we were able to spend with him and to learn in his presence. Heaven’s gain is our loss. His memory and his impact on our lives will live on for generations. We need only look around us to see his monument.

Condolence: Van lived a life full of love, care and passion. He loved his family especially Milena. Van was passionate about his city and on every occasion articulated support for policies that moved the city forward. Van was a great American who served his country as evidenced by his long tenure with the Corp. It is with saddness that Cathy and I learn of his passing and extend the most heartfelt condolences to Milena and the family. We are also most appreciative that we were afforded the opportunity to know Van. May God bless.

Condolence: Dear Dr. Van, what a kind and caring man. He was the faculty advisor of the Mary Washington College Class of 1966 and joined our reunions every 5 years. As a very loyal member of our group, he and Milena, became part of our family. He will truly be missed, but never forgotten, for the wonderful support he gave to our class and the friendship he gave to me. It was an honor to know him.

Condolence: Dr. Van Sant loved St. John's College so much. He has attended every Homecoming for at least the past 12 years and was a generous supporter of the college. We loved hearing his stories, especially about how he got called on the carpet by Scott Buchanan for getting into mischief when he was a student. Our sincere condolences, St. John's College Alumni Relations Office Leo Pickens, Dolores Strissel and Torii Campbell
