Obituary for Helen Kimble Ellis (Anthony)

Helen Kimble Ellis, 92, died Tuesday evening, July 15, 2014 at Parham Campus of Henrico Doctors Hospital in Richmond. Born Helen Gertrude Anthony on September 1, 1921 in Weems, VA, the first of eight children of the late Richard Henry Anthony and Katie Abbott Anthony, Mrs. Ellis was a member of Kilmarnock Baptist Church. After living independently most recently at Holly Court Apartments in Kilmarnock for several years, in February 2012 her failing health necessitated her residency at Kilmarnock’s The Lancashire until she moved to Parham Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in August of 2013. She was the widow of William Edwin (Kane) Kimble. She is survived by the two children of this marriage, daughters Kaye Kimble Peck (Bob, Sr.) of Lake Gaston in Henrico, NC and Doris Kimble Phillips (Dennis Harris) of Glen Allen, VA; six grandchildren: Matthew Peck of Summerville, SC, Teresa Poole (Kerry) of Tampa, FL, Bobby Peck, Jr. (Sharri) of Newport News, Andrea Peck Tarantino (Chris) of Toano, VA, John Kimble Phillips of Marietta, GA, and Geoffrey Sawyer Phillips of Glen Allen, VA. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Also the widow of J.W. Haynie and Arthur Ellis, Mrs. Ellis was predeceased by her final companion, Kendrick Walker. She had been employed by various area businesses, including the Kilmarnock Bakery and Moore’s Florist, retiring after twenty-plus years at the Rexall Drug Store on Main Street. She was a great cook, an expert seamstress who also successfully delved into furniture upholstery for a time. Her exceptional crochet abilities were admired by all.

The funeral for Mrs. Ellis will be held at Currie Funeral Home Chapel, Kilmarnock, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 20. The family will receive friends immediately before Sunday’s service, from 2:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to Animal Welfare League, P. O. Box 975, White Stone, VA 22578 or Kilmarnock-Lancaster Volunteer Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 333, Kilmarnock, VA 22482.

Interment will be private.
