Obituary for Phyllis Cook

Phyllis Cook, 97, of Lancaster, Va. passed away September 27, 2014.

She was born in 1916 to John and Hephzibah Lewis of Manchester, England.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Margery Hilton; her first husband, Royal Marine Commander John Catterall ; and her second husband, Leslie Arthur Cook.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Paul Denkinger; two grandsons, Eric (Wendy) and Mark (Michelle) Denkinger; three great-grandchildren, Victoria, Hailey, and Jax Denkinger; and several nieces and nephews.

During WWII, Mrs. Cook worked in a British bomb factory then moved to Banbury, Oxfordshire where she worked as a tailoress for the Horton General Hospital. She was a member of the Women of the Moose in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, Va. A gathering will be held in New York at a later date.

The family extends many thanks to the caring staff of the Lancashire Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center.
