Obituary for Mildred Hall Carter (Hall)

Virginia Beach - Mildred Hall Carter, 101, passed away peacefully on October 29th at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. She was born in January 1913 in Hanover, Virginia to Aubrey N. and Quin M. Hall. She was predeceased by her loving husband Edward Lawson Carter, her parents, her brother Aubrey N. Hall, Jr. and her sister Dorothy Riggs.

Mildred graduated from Longwood Teachers College and went on to become a lifelong educator dedicated to the development and wellbeing of her many students. She spent the last 24 years of that respected career at Tuckahoe Elementary, retiring in 1978.
Many happy retirement years with Lawson followed while living on the Corrottoman River.

Mildred was a dedicated and loving wife and partner to her husband “Lawson” and wonderful Mother to their two sons Ed and John. She had an enormous capacity to give her time and energy to others, always concerned about the needs of her family, friends, students and associates. Her kindness helped many and will be missed.

Mildred is survived by her two sons Ed and wife, Cheryl; John and wife, Lynn; godson Dan Danielson (Hope); grandchildren Bill Carter (Amy), Donna Emler (Paul) and Jeremy Arrington (Krystal); five great grandchildren Zoe, Zachary, Ada, Logan and Spencer, nephew Preston P. Purdum (Fran) and Carter N. Hall (Pam); nieces Brenda Blevins, Debbie Poloquin (John), and Margaret Poole; and many grand nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to the staff of Our Lady of Perpetual Help for the care and attention received over the past 12 years.

A graveside service will be held November 4th at 11:30 a.m. at Christ Church in Irvington, Virginia.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Historic Christ Church Foundation, P. O. Box 24, Irvington, VA 22480. Currie Funeral Home of Kilmarnock is handling arrangements.
