Irvington - Betty Logan Johnston, 94, of Irvington passed away on February 5, 2016.
Mrs. Johnston was born on December 20, 1921 in Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma. She graduated from Northwestern University with a journalism degree, and later earned a Masters degree in English. She married Thomas Matkins Johnston (a United States Military Academy graduate) on June 7, 1943. They were married 55 years and had four children: Thomas Garrett Johnston, Robert Alexander Johnston, Hugh Samuel Johnston, and Ann Logan Johnston.
Mrs. Johnston is survived by three of her children, daughters-in-law, nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Tom; her sisters, Chris and Jerry; and her son, Tom.
Mrs. Johnston was a former English instructor at Northern Virginia Community college and a long-time member of Grace Episcopal Church in Kilmarnock, Virginia where she served on the altar guild. She loved reading, gardening, and writing murder mystery novels.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Kilmarnock on February 20, at 2:00 pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mrs. Johnston’s life.
