Obituary for Dorothy Lee Clark Conley (Clark)

Dorothy Lee Clark  Conley (Clark)
Dorothy Lee Clark Conley, 83, of Morattico, Va , passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family, friends and beloved dog Zoey after a long, courageous battle with cancer on April 19, 2016. .

She was born on February 2, 1933, daughter of the late Capt. John E. Clark and Virginia Brewer Clark. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Weston F. “Bitzie” Conley, Jr.

Surviving are her loving, caring and devoted daughter, Connie E. Conley; her grand dog, Zoey; her brother-in-law, Robert B. Conley; a “second daughter” and special cousin, Debbie Saunders, two very special friends who were family to her, Cynthia and Robert Henderson, and many devoted nephews, nieces and cousins.

A lifelong Baptist, she was a devoted member of Norwood Baptist Church, Morattico, where she held the position of treasurer for 27 years, Sunday school teacher since 1971 and clerk from 1973-1989. She was also an active member of the Morattico Waterfront Museum, which her family gifted to the community in 2003.

She was co-owner of Smith Seafood, Reedville, Rappahannock Seafood, Kilmarnock and RCV Seafood, Morattico, where she worked from the age of 16. At the time of her death she was a partner in Conley Properties, LLC.

Her greatest joy was being in her home, surrounded by her loving family and preparing her most delicious meals. She also enjoyed gardening and collecting antiques, which she proudly displayed in "Dorothy's Treasure Shed." She always put others ahead of herself and was incredibly giving, kind-hearted, and faithful.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 21st at 11:00 a.m. at Norwood Baptist Church, Morattico. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends Wednesday, April 20th, 5-7 p.m. at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock.
