Obituary for Robert Sorrell Dudley Jr.

Robert Sorrell Dudley, Jr, 85, died on Friday, July 22nd, 2016 in the Halifax Hospice Health Facility in Daytona Beach, FL. He was born on February 17th, 1931, to Robert Sorrell Dudley, Sr. and Vadis McCarty Lampkin, of Lively, VA, and was the Step-Son of Letcher Lampkin, of St. George’s Island, MD. He married M. Jeanne Murphy in 1952 in Boston, Massachusetts. He remarried Jo Bohannon in 2002. Dudley enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, becoming an E3 Corporal, then continuing to serve in the USMC Reserves. He started working for Steuart Petroleum in Piney Point, MD as a gauger and rose through the ranks to become the Vice President of Steuart Transportation. Afterwards, he was the principal owner and President of Piney Point Transportation Co.
He was preceded in death by his father , Robert S. Dudley, Sr.; mother, Vadis Lampkin, step-father Letcher Lampkin; sister Frances Bussler, wife, M. Jeanne Dudley and granddaughter Danielle Dudley. He is survived by his sister, Alice Lavender; son, R. Phillip Dudley (Teresa); son, Stephen Dudley (Mary Ann); son, Robert S. Dudley, III (Susan); wife, Jo Bohanon Dudley; 9 grand children, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Services are being held on Wednesday, July 27th, with visitation beginning at 1:00pm, and Funeral Services at 2:00pm, at St. Mary’s Whitechapel Episcopal Church in Lancaster, VA. There will be a gravesite service with military honors. These services will be followed by a luncheon reception at the Parish House, adjoining the church.
