Carolyn Deane "Sugar" Shaw (Gates)
Carolyn "Sugar" Deane Shaw, 85, of Lottsburg, Virginia, went to be with the Lord, on October 18th, 2016. She passed peacefully in her home, surrounded by her adoring family. She was the beloved wife of Reginald V. Shaw for 33 years.

Carolyn was born November 4, 1930, in the District of Columbia to Katheryn D. Gates and George W. Gates.

She was a graduate of Washington and Lee High School in 1948 and received a business degree with a minor in education from Radford College. She had a successful career with the Small Business Administration. She started as a typist and advanced to the position of federal investigator all while raising five children.

Carolyn was a member of Fairfields UMC where she served as a lay speaker and charge secretary among other duties. It was a passion of hers to spread God's word. She was also a member of the local garden club where she held the position of president for two years. One of her favorite organizations was her Red Hatters Club, "Le Rouge Chateaus".
She was also a member of the American Legion Post 117 Auxiliary. She was at one time the United Methodist Women's president and a member of the Community Singers.

Carolyn was the loving mother of Neale Clouser, Katheryn Daker, Charles Clouser, John Clouser and the late Michael Clouser. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

She loved her family, her community and her church. She was a natural leader and never hesitated to assist someone in need. Carolyn had a way of lighting up a room, especially while wearing one of her coveted red hats. Her family and friends will miss her dearly.

A viewing will be held at Fairfields United Methodist Church on Monday, October 24th from 3-5pm. A service will begin at 5pm with a reception to follow.
Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery on Tuesday, October 25th at 2pm
