Nancy Deets Chilton
Nancy Deets Chilton, 73, died unexpectedly on November 28th, 2017. Beloved wife, mother, ‘Mimi’, and friend to many, she leaves behind a legacy of wonderful memories, valuable lessons, and the pleasure to have been part of her life. She will be especially remembered for her generous and embracing character.
Nancy was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on October 31, 1944 to parents Catherine and Howard Deets. She graduated from Towson University and began a career in elementary education. She married her husband, Charles Benjamin Chilton (Ben), in Baltimore where they resided and raised their daughters for over 30 years and were active throughout the community.
Nancy dedicated her life to others. Following her teaching career, she took time to raise her two daughters and then became active in public service. In Baltimore, among her many contributions, she served as director for the Assistance Center of Towson Churches, was a member of PEO, and served in various capacities at Trinity Episcopal Church.
Nancy and her husband retired to the Northern Neck of Virginia 13 years ago where the entire family loves to gather.
In Virginia, she became an active member of St. Mary’s Whitechapel Episcopal Church, and volunteered with the Rappahannock Fine Arts Association (RFA), the Lancaster Community Library, the Northern Neck Free Medical Clinic, the Lancaster Primary School, and Historic Christ Church.

She is survived by daughters Elizabeth Chilton and husband Bryan Collier of Roanoke, VA, and Jennifer Chilton and husband Christoph Hundack of Washington, DC; four grandchildren, Benjamin, Rebecca, Henrik, and Conrad. She is also survived by sister Kathleen and husband Michael Moriarity, and sister-in-law Mary and husband William Newell, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ben.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Whitechapel, 5940 White Chapel Road, Lancaster, VA 22503, on Friday December 8th, at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lancaster Community Library (http://www.lancasterlibrary.org/give.html) or St. Mary’s Whitechapel (http://www.stmaryswhitechapel.org/default.asp).
