Jean C. Hess peacefully passed away at her home in Irvington, Virginia, on January 31st, 2020 at the age of 75. Born in Staunton, Virginia, September 27th, 1944, she lived a full and vibrant life. Jean grew up in Craigsville, Virginia, one of three children to Robert G. Craig and Della M. Craig. After meeting the love of her life, Dr. Kurtis C. Hess, they shared 41 beautiful years caring for each other, family and several church congregations. Jean excelled in a life of continual exploration and learning. Upon receiving her Master’s Degree, Jean faithfully taught children with special needs in Richmond City for over 20 years. Beloved by family and friends, she will be fondly remembered for her vivacious spirit and boundless energy. Her most treasured moments were often paddling a kayak, sailing with Kurtis and spending time with her children and grandchildren. In her later years, Jean often traveled to remote corners of the world, savoring the beauty and wonder of life.
She leaves behind three children, Karen Carr, Susan Pickeral, and John Hess ;nine granddaughters; two sisters; and numerous extended family and friends. Jean was preceded in death in 2007 by her husband, Dr. Kurtis C. Hess.

Funeral Service: Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, Feb. 5th at 1pm.
