Blessings come in many forms. Mom was a blessing to all who knew her, and God certainly knew what he was doing by blessing us with her as our mother. On December 10th, 2020, her time with us was over and she left us peacefully with her family by her side.
Alice was born November 13th, 1940 in Clyo, Georgia to the late J.D and Edell Chance. She came to the Northern Neck as a young girl while her father worked with the construction crew building the Robert Norris bridge. It is in this small town where she met the love of her life, Mike E. Croxton, together they shared sixty-four years. To this union they were blessed with three children. While raising their children Mike and Alice worked together in the seafood business, on the water, and running two retail seafood operations until retiring several years ago.
Mom loved to dance to country music, she had a passion for cooking as well. It brought her great joy to see everyone laughing, talking, sharing memories, and enjoying the incredible food she had prepared. In her home there was always room at the table for one more, when you left your belly was full and you had a smile on your face. Most of all she loved being a mother, wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She always loved us unconditionally. She was a gentle disciplinarian and we learned as small children what was expected of us. She rarely raised her voice, instead she gave us “the look” and when you got that look you knew to straighten up quick. Anytime you needed someone to talk to she was there. Whatever she was doing could always wait, she would listen and offer advice or a shoulder to cry on. She enjoyed her family and made each one of us feel special and loved.
She is survived by her husband: Mike E. Croxton Sr., her children: Vickey (Frankie), Mike Jr. (Tammy), and Angie. Ten grandchildren: H.F, Heidi, Luke (Amelia), Nick (Karleigh), Trey (Stephanie), Tim (Ashley), Samantha (Mark), Brandon (Annie), Briana, and Connor. Thirteen great grandchildren: Tyler, Ayden, Alex, Henry, Emma, Ryan, Wynter, Celeste, Grayson, Tristin, Bentley, Lucas, Hailey. Brothers: W.H. Chance (Sadie), Earnest Chance (Shirley), several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
