Carolyn Louise Sanders, 77, of Kilmarnock passed away on June 21, 2022.
She was predeceased by her mother, Gladys Marie Dawson, father, Richard Linwood Sanders, father, Granville Carrington Dawson (G.C.), and granddaughter, Emma Wilder Long.
She is survived by her son, Wayne Carrington DuVal, (Marie) of Center Cross, her daughter, Susan DuVal Graves, (Steve) of Weems, grandchildren, Colton Wayne DuVal of Michigan, Grant Diggs Long (Hannah) of White Stone and Pierson Marshall Long of Weems, great-granddaughter, Oakley Ann DuVal of Michigan, her loving, protective and best brother George Daniel (Danny) Sanders, Sr. (Nancy) of White Stone, (sisters), Helen Marie Haynie, (Bobby) of White Stone and G. Geneva Dawson of Kilmarnock, nieces, Cheryl (Cheri) Winkler, (Mark) of Fairfax Station, Heather Maksym (Jimmy) of White Stone, Courtney Kellner, (Brian) of Maryland, Carrington Blencowe, (Todd) of Richmond, two nephews, George Daniel (Dan) Sanders, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Weems and Kyle Kilduff (Emily) of Afton, great-nieces, Victoria Winkler of Marlton, NJ, Sabrina Winkler of Nashville, TN, Claire and Caroline Kellner of Maryland, Lawton and Dawson Blencowe of Richmond, four great-nephews, Reid Kellner of Maryland, Colin Maksym of White Stone, Nolan Sanders of Weems, and Blane Blencowe of Richmond.
A Lancaster County native, she was a career employee of Bank of Virginia, whose bank name was changed to Signet Bank in 1986. In February 1998, the Signet Bank offices in Lancaster and Northumberland were acquired by Northern Neck State Bank. She held positions in all areas of banking, the last as Vice President and Manager of the Kilmarnock branch.
Civic minded, she served on several committee and service boards in both Lancaster and Northumberland counties. She was the first woman to have served in a public office in the Town of Kilmarnock as councilwoman of the Kilmarnock Town Council. In retirement, she acted as an election official to the Lancaster County Electoral Board and as a volunteer at the Lancaster Community Library, the Kilmarnock Museum, the Northern Neck Free Health Clinic, and the Steamboat Era Museum in Irvington.
Carolyn enjoyed a full and active life, always looking forward to an early spring, as she loved her time gardening and being outdoors. She was a devoted mother, and a proud, loving, Grammy.
