Obituary for Colonel Robert Lionel Adcock

Robert Lionel Adcock, 94, a retired US Army Colonel of Weems, Virginia died December 9, 2020. He was born in the Territory of Hawaii on October 9, 1926.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Z. Adcock; his father, Major General C. L. Adcock; his mother, Olive C. Adcock and his brother, Colonel Charles W. Adcock. He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn A. Adcock; a son, Charles R. Adcock and his wife, Elizabeth J. Adcock; a grandson, W. Hutton Adcock; and two step granddaughters, Rachel Ludwig and Jane Ludwig.

Colonel Adcock's 30 years of active federal commissioned service included 15 years overseas. He was a graduate of San Francisco State College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in Washington, DC. His last assignment was on the Army Staff in the Pentagon. His military decorations include the Silver Star and the Legion of Merit with two Oak Leaf Clusters.

His involvement with the Rappahannock River Yacht Club during its early years of member ownership and his contributions to the Red Cross Bloodmobile pale in comparison to Ginny's years of service at the Lancaster Community Library. In 1965 their purchase of property on Moran Creek was the second best decision they ever made.

A private service will be planned. Memorials may be made to the Lancaster Community Library, P. O. Box 850, Kilmarnock, VA 22482.
