Obituary for Darlene Freeman Taylor

Mrs. Darlene Freeman Taylor of Morattico, Virginia, formerly of Chesterfield County, Virginia, entered into eternal life in Heaven on March 10, 2022, . Darlene was a retired legal secretary having worked for the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney in both Henrico and Chesterfield Counties. She is survived by her loving husband of thirty five years, John Henry Taylor, a retired Police Sergeant of the City of Richmond. She was predeceased by her parents, John Moore Freeman Sr. and Mary Louise Chamberlayne Freeman. Also surviving her are sister Anita Cheryl Freeman, and brother John “Jay” Moore Freeman Jr. (Jim Contoris), Sons Julian Dean Gilman Jr., Justin Shawn Gilman (Alyssa), Grandchildren Julian Dean Gilman III, Brooke Gilman, Karissa Gilman, Step daughter Jane Nicole Taylor Woodward (Griffin), Step grandsons Ryan Clyde Penglase (Amy), Andrew Sutherland Penglase, Zakary James Woodward, Step grand daughter Taylor Nicole Penglase Griffin (Timothy), and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Darlene was an active and dedicated member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church and the Emmanuel United Methodist Women. She held memberships in the Richmond Stonewall Jackson Chapter #1705 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Friends of Belle Isle State Park, the Lancaster Moose Lodge # 2579, and the Morattico Waterfront Museum.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday March 19, 2022 at 11 A.M. at the Bethel United Methodist Church located at 142 Old Bethel Road Lively, VA. The Reverend Evelyn Penn will be officiating and the Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock will be handling arrangements.
