Obituary for Edward Milton "Ed" Kidwell

Edward Milton Kidwell went to be with the Lord December 8, 2020. Ed was born January 9th, 1931. He grew up in the Great Depression and spent his first six years of life living in the slums of Alexandria. He often told stories of the hobo camps nearby and how he use to jump on the trains as they passed through Alexandria. Eventually he moved to Annandale, Virginia where he spent the rest of his childhood and young adulthood. Interestingly, as a teenager he dated the famous actress Shirley McClain.
Ed was a Navy veteran who lied about his age at 17 to join the Navy. He spent most of his working career as an executive working for the General Services Administration. At GSA he was in Public Building Services and he oversaw all federally and leased properties in Region 3 and Region 10. He was able to retire at the age of 51 and started a second career as a magistrate for Northumberland and Lancaster County.
Ed was a proud member of Mensa. He was also very active in the Masons where he was a member of the Lancaster Union Lodge 88. He was a 32 degree Mason as well as a Shriner, member of the mini patrol and was an inductee into the Jesters. He was a faithful member and past president of the Lions where he received the Melvin Jones Award for outstanding service to club and community. He devoted himself to helping others, especially children and his community through these organizations.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his older sister Lillian Ford; his brother-in-law Steve Ford; and his brother Gene Kidwell as well as his son Corey Owen. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Pamela Kidwell; his sons, Andy Kidwell, Kevin Kidwell and wife Donna, and his daughter, Valerie Kidwell; his granddaughters Sarah Vest and Sarah Callicutt and her husband Jeremy; his great grandchildren Carter Callicutt, Caroline Callicutt, Hailey Vest, Carly Callicutt and Noah Vest. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 2:00 p. m. at Currie Funeral Home, 116 East Church Street, Kilmarnock, VA . There will be a one hour visitation before the service.
