Obituary for Francis Joseph Bohan

Francis Joseph Bohan died on Sunday at Rappahannock General Hospital, surrounded by family. He was 89 years old. He was an active member of Saint Francis de Sales in Kilmarnock and a constant source of support for his loved ones. Before retiring to Lancaster County, he raised his family in Fairfax. There, he attended Saint Leo the Great and was dedicated to Knights of Columbus, of which he was a member for more than seven decades, and a passionate leader in the organization’s outreach to people with disabilities and in its right-to-life initiatives. He attended every March for Life when he was physically able and maintained a personal ministry handing out prayer cards to mothers of young children. Francis was born in 1932 in Camden, New Jersey, and grew up in Pittston, Pennsylvania. He served in the US Airforce for four years. In 1959 he completed a Bachelor’s degree cum laude in Economics at Georgetown University, where he met his wife, Helen, whom he married in 1959. For most of his career, he worked in The Office of the Secretary of Transportation, where he played a role in the deregulation of commercial airlines. He took the greatest pride in his family and a deep interest in all of their endeavors. He is survived by his wife, four children, fifteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
