Obituary for Gertrude Kruske "Trudy" Unangst
Gertrude Kruske “Trudy” Unangst, 94, of Weems, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 26, 2021.
She was born to the late George and Rosa Lehmann Kruske, August 7, 1926, in North Bergen, New Jersey. Trudy graduated from Bergen High and later worked as a secretary for W. T. Grant, in New York City. Trudy married the late Hervey Brereton “Bert” Unangst, in 1955, and they lived in Saudi Arabia and New Jersey before moving to Weems in 1991.
She was a devoted stay at home Mom, who always put her family first. Trudy volunteered at the Rappahannock General Hospital for more than 20 years, where she made many friends. She was also a talented needle worker, specializing in Japanese Embroidery. In her later years, she designed beaded jewelry, selling both at Black River Gallery and the Rappahannock Art League.
Trudy is survived by her two children: Gilbert B. Unangst, of Weems; Sheryl S. Unangst, of Arlington.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Hospice of Virginia and the Rappahannock General Hospital for their support in her final days.
Services will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the Kilmarnock-Lancaster Volunteer Rescue Squad in her name.
