Obituary for Gladys Conde Rogers

Gladys Rogers passed away peacefully on March 28th, 2023, in her home at Rappahannock Westminster Canterbury (RWC) in Irvington, VA. She was 93.
Gladys was born September 14th, 1929, in New York City to her parents Eleanor and Rudolph Conde. Gladys was very devoted to her family, which included her husband, James Rogers (d. 1995), children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She worked as a secretary at Remington Rand Typewriter Co. in NYC until her marriage in 1950. She and James moved to Northport on Long Island and raised a family, Gladys being a full-time homemaker. An accomplished seamstress, she ran her own small but flourishing business, designing, and sewing custom clothing for a local children's apparel store, as well as for an established clientele. Gladys and James moved to Charlottesville in 1992 and became members of Church of Our Savior Episcopal Church. Among Gladys' many activities there she served as secretary and then vice president of the "Episcopal Church Women" (ECW). She also served on the kitchen guild, the altar guild, volunteered with the food pantry and helped run their busy thrift shop. Widowed since 1995, Gladys moved to RWC in 2010 where she participated in their exercise and yoga programs and enjoyed spending time with the many friends that she made there. Gladys was always a sunny presence, who was appreciated by her friends as well as the staff at RWC. The family offers its deep appreciation to all the RWC staff for the dedicated care and love extended to Gladys over the years she spent there.
Gladys is survived by her children James Rogers, Jr. (Mary, wife), Ellen Huddy (Daniel, husband), and Todd Rogers (Christina, partner); her grandchildren, Jennifer (Frederic, husband), Erin, Kristi (Chris, husband), and James; and her great grandchildren, Amandine and Danielle.
A memorial service will be held in Gladys’ honor Monday, April 17th at 2pm at RWC, with a reception following. Flowers may be sent to RWC at 132 Lancaster Dr, Irvington, VA 22480.
Gladys will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
