Obituary for Gloria Gertrude Heard King (Heard)

Gloria Gertrude Heard King
Kilmarnock — Gloria King passed away on November 12, 2020 at the age of 95 in her home. She was a native of Washington, DC. Gloria worked at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in MD during WWII while her late husband Richard M. King served in the Navy. When Gloria’s husband retired in 1972 they moved to Kilmarnock, VA where she resided until her passing.
Gloria was a member of Morattico Baptist Church and later attended New Life Church. She enjoyed attending the Women’s Alive monthly meetings, she volunteered at Rappahanock General Hospital, and she enjoyed playing bridge at ICYCC and at the White Stone Women’s Club.
Gloria loved caring for her children and would often say she wished she would live to see all her grandchildren and that they would really know her. One of the grandchildren remarked that he thought that she would live to see her great grandchildren; by the grace of God and His goodness she lived to see them. Gloria also said that the abiding passion of her life was her late husband, Richard (Dick); her children, Carol, Rick, Cheryl, Donna, their families, and her faith in Jesus!
Gloria was the daughter of the late Bernard F. Heard, Sr. and Sadie G. Heard. She is survived by her children Carol Seymour (Thomas), Richard, Jr. (Pam), Cheryl Ashe (Les), and Donna Shepler (Richard), 9 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Donald King (Helen) and their family and the family members of her two late brothers Frank Bernard Heard, Jr. and William Ewell Heard.
A graveside service will be held on April 5, 2021 at 1 pm at Morattico Baptist Church, 924 Morattico Church Rd., Kilmarnock, VA.
Donations may be made to Morattico Baptist Church, the Rappahanock General Hospital or your favorite charity.
