Obituary for Helen Wilson Cover

Helen Garland Wilson Cover, widow of Charles W. Cover, of Lancaster, Va., died April 18, 2021. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Judge Richard Taylor Wilson, Jr. and Julia Meade Patterson Wilson; her son, Thomas Wilson Cover; her granddaughter, Marsha Nichols Gallier; a brother, Richard T. Wilson, III; and a sister, Elizabeth W. Hitch.
Mrs. Cover graduated from Petersburgh High School and State Teachers College, Farmville, now Longwood University. She was a teacher for 38 years in Hopewell, Petersburg, Covington, and Norfolk, the last 20 years in Lancaster, Va. She was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Alpha Omega Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International, Lancaster-Northumberland Retired Teachers Association, and Corrottoman Senior Citizens. She continued her interest in education beyond her retirement in 1989 by substituting at Lancaster High school, teaching in Bethel Preschool and Daycare, and tutoring in the volunteer program at Lancaster Middle School.
She is survived by her daughter, Julia Meade Gallier, and husband Michael; daughter, Catherine Cover Emry; son, Charles Garland Cover; grandson, Christopher Owens Emry; grandson, Benjamin Michael Gallier, and wife, Rebecca; great-granddaughters, Claire Marsha Gallier and Peyton Grace Gallier; sister, Julia Meade Ferguson; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, VA 5-7 p. m. Wednesday, April 21, 2021. A funeral service will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church, Lively, Va. 11:00 a. m. Thursday, April 22, 2021. Interment will be at Blandford Cemetery, in Petersburg, Va. 3:30 p. m. Thursday, April 22, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Helen W. Cover Scholarship Fund, c/o Bethel UMC, P.O. Box 118, Lively, VA 22507.

The family extends thanks to the Right At Home staff and caregivers for the care they provided to Mom. Thanks also to the staff of Kindred Hospice for their care of Mom.
Julia-Meade, Mike, Chuck, Ben and Becca also express our deepest gratitude and thanks to Catherine and Chris for their devoted and unwavering care of Mom.
