Obituary for Helen Marie Jennings
August 4, 1935 to January 25, 2023
Helen M. Jennings, 87, of Kilmarnock, VA passed away on January 25, 2023 after a short battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Jennings, her daughter, Cathy Jennings Ortiz, son in law Pierre J. Ortiz, Jr., her grandson, Peter J. Ortiz, his wife Sharon, her granddaughter, Jennifer O. Duffy, her husband O’Bun, and great grandchildren, Kayden, Lucas, James, Malia and Kailani. She is also survived by her brother Carl Taylor, wife Sybil of Crossville, Tennessee, nephew Ralph D. Jennings, his wife Eva and numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen was born in Crossville, Tennessee, the 10th of 12 children. She met her future husband Bob Jennings at her sister’s wedding, when Helen was 15 and Bob was 16. They got married in 1955 and lived in Washington, D.C., Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia. Helen was an administrative assistant for the Department of Agriculture when she retired. She loved her family, her church family, gardening, going boating and she was an avid basketball and football fan. She was a treasured member of our family and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Kilmarnock United Methodist Church in Kilmarnock on February 11 at 2 p.m. Burial will be private.
