Iva M Benson

Iva M Benson of Ypsilanti, MI, formally of Kilmarnock, VA passed away peacefully on January 18, 2022 at the age of 97 in Ypsilanti, MI. She was the daughter of Carl M and Clara L Watling. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond B Benson Sr "Pete", a grandchild Tammy B Jett and two son-in-laws, James E Gordon and Walter J Nott Jr "George", two brothers, Nelson and Carl "Jake" Watling and a sister, Jean McCulligh.
She retired from Safeway in1987 and in 2002, moved back to Michigan to be close to her siblings and her oldest daughter Diane.
Mom had a good sense of humor and an infectious laugh that would make everyone in the room laugh with her. She was a loved and dedicated mom and grandma who loved spending time with family. She enjoyed helping out in any way she could. She was a member of the Kilmarnock United Methodist Church and an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Ypsilanti.
She is survived by her five children, a special daughter, Diane M Burris (Scott) who always made sure she had everything she wanted and needed along with ensuring she was being well taken care of, Raymond B Benson Jr "Butch" (Lynn), Linda B Gordon, Rebecca B Nott "Becky" and William C Benson "Billy" (Elsa); twelve grandchildren, Tonya Burris, a special granddaughter Tesha Harding (Mike) who visited her often with treats in tow, Christopher Benson "Chris", Kimberly Benson "Kim" (Brian), Matthew Benson "Matt" (Shauna), Walter Nott III "Tre" (Christina), Ashly Armstead, Meaghan Allshouse (Chris), Raymond Benson "Ray"(Jen), Jeffrey Benson "Jeff" (Katelyn), Stephanie Benson; eighteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Heater and Patricia Sancrant and a special sister-in-law, Ruby Abbott.
A memorial service will be held at 2 o'clock on April 9, 2022 at Kilmarnock United Methodist Church.
