Obituary for Joan Aileen Robinson (Bell)

Joan Aileen Robinson, nee Bell, 89, a native of Washington, DC passed away on May 16, 2022. She graduated from Holy Cross Academy in Washington, DC. The Robinsons relocated to Weems, VA in 1998 from Chevy Chase, MD. She and her husband were life members of Congressional Country Club in Potomac, MD where they were avid tennis and golf players. The Robinsons loved Europe. They skied in France, played tennis at Monaco Country Club, pursued and collected Europe’s finest wines. An eye for fashion, their favorite destination was Italy.

Retired, Joan shared a passion for Mahjong and acrylic abstract art. It was her art and fashion talents that influenced the décor of “La Donjon sans Chateau” round house off the Corotoman’s Taylor Creek. Joan was a ribbon- winner member of the Rappahannock Art League and avid Mahjong player at RWC and Indian Creek Country Club. Joan lived young at heart with a sense of humor who enjoyed doting on her pet dogs.

After suffering a severe stroke in November 2021, then, a month later a heart attack, Joan resided at Sanders Heron Cove 1 in Gloucester VA. The family is grateful for the care and compassion shown to her by the resident physician, nurse aides, chaplain, staff members and more recent Hospice care.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lester Robinson of 51 years and her brother John A, Bell, Sr.

Joan is survived by her sister, Jacquelyn Colligan of Urbanna, VA and her children, Kevin Moore, Bitterroot, MT, Christopher Michael Moore, Ashland, OR, and Terrence Moore, Silver Spring, MD, sister-in-law, Opal Bell of Washington, DC and her children John Bell, Jr. of Reedsville, WV, Jeff Bell of Silver Spring, MD, Julia Bell of Silver Spring, MD and Jules Bell of Washington D.C.
