Obituary for Leroy George "Lee" Johnson

Leroy G. Johnson, also known as Lee, Grandpa Lee, Big Lee, Uncle Lee, Sweet Lee, 90, of Irvington, Virginia, formerly of Wisconsin and Florida, went to meet his Lord and Savior on October 1, 2020. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Lee was born April 19, 1930, in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Frank and Catherine Johnson. Lee graduated from East Division High School. After serving in the Marines, he worked in the grocery business, then retired from the South Milwaukee library.
In his earlier years, his hobbies included singing in the choir, playing softball with the American Legion, golfing, and throughout his life he enjoyed playing card games, traveling (especially to FL) and watching his Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Bucks, and all of his grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s sporting events. He was always so proud of each one and of their accomplishments.
What brought him the most joy in his life was being surrounded by family and friends. He was blessed to be happily married to Lucille Rabl Johnson for 52 years prior to her death and to Hazel Woolard Johnson for 15 years. While living in Florida, he attended The Congregational Church of Laurel, Florida and He was a member of Wesley Evangelical Church, Weems, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille Rabl Johnson, brother Bob (Jean) Johnson, sisters, Marion (George) Buege and Marge (Gus) Butula. He is survived by the second love of his life and best friend Hazel (Woolard) Johnson, son Ron (Kathy) Johnson, stepdaughter Becky (Thom) Davis, stepson Carlie (Noel) Woolard, grandchildren, Heather (David) Garay, Brent (Stephanie) Johnson, Paul (Angie) Piccione, Nick (Fran) Johnson, Jason (Emily) Davis, Jonathan Davis, Lydia (Daniel) Jorden, Taylor Woolard, Rachel Woolard, Lizzy Woolard, Joshua Woolard, great grandchildren, Sam Garay, Lizzy Garay, Lucille Johnson, Ryann Johnson, Theresa Piccione, June Piccione, Sophia Johnson, Brooklyn Davis, Isabella Davis and many nieces and nephews.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the family will hold a private service at Wesley Evangelical Presbyterian Church, with a memorial service to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Lee's honor to Wesley Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 70 Faith Circle, Weems, VA 22576.
