Obituary for Linda Marlene Oleyar Gallihugh (Oleyar)

Linda Oleyar Gallihugh passed away peacefully with family by her side on February 11, 2021.

She is survived by her children, Thomas Warner; Tamarra (Michael) Fullerton; Theresa (Roger) Hendricks; grandchildren Kayla (Gabe) Wentlandt; John, Paul, and Nicholas Warner; Zachary (Reka) Hendricks; Morgan (Morgan) Ellis; Alyssa Hendricks; great grandchildren Emma Wentlandt; Gabriel, Elijah and Adelle Ellis; and Penelope Hendricks; brothers John (Helen) Oleyar; Ronald (Gail) Oleyar; Donald (Brenda) Oleyar and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Linda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom, and her parents, John and Arvyle Oleyar.

Linda was an active member of Afton United Methodist Church serving as a Co-Lay Leader, President and Secretary of the United Methodist Women (UMW) and Past President and current Secretary of the Leadership Board. Linda was an important part of the NOW (Nurture, Outreach and Witness) Team and a member of the Adult Sunday School Class and choir. Linda’s love for the Lord and the Afton church community was demonstrated in everything she did.

As a breast cancer survivor, Linda supported the American Cancer Society as an organizer and fundraiser for the Relay for Life. She shared her survivor story often when others received this devastating diagnosis.

Linda’s charitable nature was ongoing. She enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels; she often arranged transportation for community friends needing transport to medical appointments; and she coordinated many church functions.

Linda enjoyed growing vegetables in her beautiful garden, canning, baking fig bread and sharing it with others, reading, feeding the hummingbirds and spending time with friends and family.

Linda was a lovely and generous lady. She loved her faith, family and friends. We will miss her smile, her hugs and her love, but we know that Heaven is a little brighter now that she is there.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a. m. Saturday, February 20 ,2021 at Afton United Methodist Church, Ophelia, Va.
