Obituary for Lois Felson Mock

Lois Felson Mock of Lancaster, VA passed away on March 30, 2023, from cancer.

A memorial service will be held Monday, April 24th , 1:30 pm, Currie Funeral Home.

Lois was born August 6, 1940 to Dr. Henry “Chippy” Felson and Helen Grad Felson in Cincinnati, Ohio. She had one younger sister, Jane.

She graduated from Oberlin College, Oberlin Ohio and received her Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Lois was a volunteer in the Peace Corps and served in Peru with her former husband, Wayne Mock. Her lifelong working career was with the Department of Justice in Washington D.C. She was instrumental in the creation and development of Project Safe Neighborhood, and worked closely with police departments across the country.

After retirement, Lois moved permanently to the Northern Neck to join her beloved partner, John Peterson. She became a volunteer at the Animal Welfare League, where she loved the work, the staff, the animals and all she met.

Lois was an avid birder, enjoyed worldwide travels, and read voraciously. She touched countless lives and was a true friend to all.

Lois is survived by her forever partner, John Peterson. Her dear nephews in Ohio; Chris (Gretchen) Minton and Drew (Debbie) Brown. Chris and Gretchen’s children, Dennis and Madeline, and Drew and Debbie’s daughter, Nina. John’s loving daughters; Annie Peterson, Leesburg, VA, Karly Peterson, Kent Island, MD, and Kara(Andy) Peterson with Kara and Andy’s twin boys, Owen and Wesley, Kent Island, MD.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Chippy and Helen Felson and her dearest sister, Jane Felson Minton Brown.


Lois had a favorite prayer. She lived it each day of her life.
