Molly Barefoot Mullan Wroth
After a long fight with cancer, Molly Barefoot Mullan Wroth went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 4th, 2022, while at her home in White Stone, Virginia.
Molly was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, on January 31st, 1939, and moved to Richmond, Virginia as a young child. She grew up in the Ginter Park neighborhood and graduated from historic Thomas Jefferson High School. Molly received a degree in commercial design from the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. The creation of a First Ladies Costume Coloring Book in 1970, sold by The Smithsonian Institution, was one of her achievements.
While moving around the world, Molly raised five children during her husband's distinguished military career. Throughout the 1980s, she worked at the United States State Department in numerous capacities, including Conference Coordinator, Tour Coordinator, and Tour Guide for the State Department's diplomatic rooms.
Molly supported the arts with energy and passion. Her charitable endeavors included successfully raising funds for various organizations. She started the Oakton Woman's Club's annual fashion show fundraiser in Northern Virginia. Each year, the organization raised money for charities for more than twenty years.
After battling cancer during the 1990s, Molly and her other local cancer survivor friends self-titled themselves the "Bosom Buddies." She was incredibly proud of her work through the Indian Creek Yacht Club Breast Cancer Fundraising Golf Tournament.
As president of the Rappahannock Art League, Molly mobilized the community to collect the necessary funds and purchase the building that currently houses the RAL Art Gallery in Kilmarnock, Virginia.
In 1994, she and Jim moved to White Stone and built a river house near Jack Cove. Molly was an avid golfer and boater. She was always at home with the wind and waves of local waterways.
Molly loved life. She was a member of Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club, White Stone Baptist Church, The United Daughters of the Confederacy, The National Society United States Daughters of 1812, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Henry Mullan, second husband Brigadier General James Melvin Wroth, brothers Nathan Carl Barefoot Jr., Robert David Barefoot, and eldest son Edward Henry Mullan Jr.
She is survived by her sister Elizabeth Pettit, son Philip Carl Mullan, stepdaughter Marry Wroth Valant, stepsons David Wroth and Mark Wroth; and grandchildren Kristen Wroth Walton, Elizabeth Wroth Besse and Nathan Wroth.
Funeral services will take place 11:00 a. m. Saturday, March 26th, 2022 at White Stone Baptist Church 517 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone, Virginia. The family will have a private burial at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. In place of flowers, the family requests donations are made to White Stone Baptist Church.
