Obituary for Patsy Harcum McCarty Bryan (Harcum)

Patsy McCarty Bryan, 76, of Lancaster, Virginia passed away March 10, 2020.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Bryan; daughter, Kathy McCarty Schleigh; son, William A. "Billy" McCarty, III, stepson, Timothy Bryan ; four grandchildren, W. Austin McCarty, Katrina Bryan, Mary Bryan and Timmy Bryan; brother, Marbary Harcum (Virginia); and sisters, Verna Ann Saunders and Judy Whatley. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, William A. McCarty, Jr.; her parents, Hubbard and Verna Harcum and her brother, Jackie Harcum.

Patsy was a life-long member of Corrottoman Baptist Church where she served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Youth Leader, WMU leader and WMU Chairman for the Northern Neck, Chairman of the History Committee, and member of various other committees, as well as serving her church in many other capacities. She was a member of the Upper Lancaster Ruritan Club, serving as president of the local chapter and Zone Governor. Patsy worked with the Cub Scouts (Pack 242) and Boy Scouts in numerous capacities over many years.

Patsy worked for Lancaster County Schools for thirty years. Patsy started at Lively Primary School, moving to Lancaster Primary School when the lower grades consolidated. While at Lancaster Primary, Patsy worked as secretary in the guidance office. Later, she moved to Lancaster High School where she worked as a bookkeeper then office manager.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Corrottoman Baptist Church, Ottoman, Virginia. The service was performed by David Cromer. Interment followed at St. Mary's Whitechapel Episcopal Church Cemetery.
