Obituary for Peter Gerth Weil

Peter Gerth Weil, 94, of Irvington, Virginia passed away August 9, 2020. He was born on February 11, 1926 in Prague, Czechoslovakia, son of the late Ernest Weil and Edith Kirchenberger Weil.

At the age of 13, he was put on the last train boxcar of children headed for England from Auschwitz, Poland, where all of his family had been killed in the Nazi Concentration Camp. Peter was affected by history in just about aspect of his life. He often said he credited the U S for his "rags to riches" story.

Peter was educated by the British and later fought in the British Army against the Germans. It was here that he would meet his future wife, Tillie , an American WAC who was an ambulance driver in England during World War II. He was able to immigrate to America under the "War Bride" statue. They were married in Washington, DC. He soon found a job as a translator for the US Government as he was fluent in most of the Soviet Slavic, Russian and English languages. He contributes every success in life to being able to live in America.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Tillie Maciejewski Weil and his son, David Ernest Weil.

Peter will be interred next to his wife at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
