Obituary for Raymond Lee Jett

Raymond Lee Jett, 74, of White Stone, died in his home on October 26, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mitchell Jett and Viola Ficklin Jett, two brothers, Wallace Jett and Willis Jett, and two sisters, Gertrude Saunders and Jane Walter.

Raymond was the beloved father of Christal Lynn Jett and father-in-law of Kathleen Messner. He was the loving grandfather of Sydney Carole Moss (Keegan) and Matthew Talley Moss, II (Sabrina). Raymond is also survived by four brothers; Mitchell (Sue), Thomas (Nancy), Jimmie (Virginia Mae), and John (Ann) Jett, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, whom he cared for dearly. He was anticipating his first great-granddaughter this November.

Raymond was born in Rehoboth Church, VA and attended Northumberland High School, where he excelled in athletics. In 1966, he drafted into the United States Army for the Vietnam War, where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Metal, Army Commendation Medal and a Purple Heart. Upon returning home from the war, he carried mail for the United States Postal Service in Weems for over 35 years. Raymond loved storytelling, our country, old western movies, college basketball, classic Country and Gospel music, and most importantly, his family. His signature phrase “No Bad Days,” kept him in upbeat, strong spirits during his one-year battle with cancer.

Raymond lived a full and active life with unwavering faith, and leaves a legacy of love, loyalty and service that will be cherished for generations. Family will receive friends 12:00 – 1:30 PM on Friday, October 30, 2020 at the Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock. There will be a memorial service immediately following visitation at 1:30 pm. Masks are required. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, VA.
