Robert Earl Grady of Irvington died on September 28, 2019 at the age of 91. Bob was born in Savage, Maryland on July 24, 1928 to Alma Akers Grady and William Elias Grady. He was the youngest of five children.
After graduating from Elkridge High School in Howard County, Maryland he served in the United States Army at the tail end of World War II. Following his discharge he attended Johns Hopkins University graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Bob married Nancy A. Flester in 1951 and through his career with General Electric they lived in many locations in the eastern United States before settling outside of Cleveland, Ohio in 1969. An avid sports fan, he embraced teams in the city where he was located, having the good fortune of living outside of Pittsburg when the Pirates won the World Series in 1960, and the misfortune of supporting Cleveland teams for two decades. Bob retired in 1988 and he and Nancy moved to Lancaster County to be close to Nancy's parents, Frances and Buster Flester. They enjoyed the friendships and amenities offered by the Northern Neck and Bob never met an oyster he didn't like. Bob's devotion to Nancy was evident in the care he provided during her illness from pancreatic cancer in 2000.
He is survived by five sons: Robert Grady, Jr. (Jeanette) of Katy, TX, Mike Grady (Laurie) of Mansfield, OH, Jim Grady (Linda) of White Stone, John Grady of Columbus, OH and Ken Grady of Steamboat Springs, CO; six grandchildren and one great-grand child; in-laws Pat Beers, Ken (Dixie) Flester, David Flester; nieces Amy Masonis and Cary Olmedo and nephew Kenny Flester.
The family gratefully acknowledges the compassion and dedication shown to Bob by the staff of Rappahanock Westminster Canterbury.
