Obituary for Virginia Sue Chewning

Virginia Sue Chewning of Irvington passed away peacefully on Friday, March 26,2021 at MCV Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. She was the daughter of RADM Robert Wills Chewning and Virginia Harvey Chewning of Heathsville, Virginia.

Sue was born on July 25,1958 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Before settling in the Northern Neck, Sue resided in a variety of interesting locales, such as Ankara, Turkey, Bahrain in the Persian Gulf, Honolulu, Hawaii, Boulder, Colorado, and Bellingham, Washington.

Sue received her B.S. in Special Education from VCU, M.Ed. In Education and Ed.S, Educational Specialist in Psychology from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. She established her Holistic Therapy Practice in 2001 and was a certified Massage Therapist, energy work practitioner, spiritual minister, and clairvoyant. Prior to her own practice, she was employed as a special education teacher and school psychologist at Lancaster County Primary School and the Northern Neck Regional Special Ed Program. Sue loved animals, travel, and family gatherings

Sue is survived by her parents Robert and Virginia Chewning; her sister Carol-Winter Allen of Weems and John; her brother and sister-in-law Rush and Joanne Chewning of Wicomico Church; nephews Wills Allen(Anna and children), Lee Allen (Bess and children), Joseph and Collier Chewning and significant others Alison and Jen and Buddy her beloved basset hound.

The family wishes to thank the oncology nurses and doctors of Rappahannock General Hospital and the oncology and critical care staff of MCV Hospital for the care and compassion they provided.

A small private memorial service was held on Monday, April 5, 2021 at the Chewning’s family home, Wicomico View outside of Wicomico Church.

Memorial donations may be made to the Animal Welfare League in Kilmarnock.
