Obituary for Jessie Johnson Anderson (Johnson)

Jessie Johnson Anderson, 94, of White Stone, Virginia and Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury, Irvington, Va. died peacefully on October 26, 2014. Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland the proud great granddaughter of Baltimore industrialist, Greenleaf Johnson, at age 17 she caught the devoted attention of her future husband, T.B.H. Anderson, Jr., with her beauty, savoir faire, and athleticism. Their strong union inspired their family and faithful friends.

Beginning in her youth, Jessie became a devout Christian and was most recently a member of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Heathsville, Va. She graduated from Randolph-Macon Women’s College in 1942 and later, at 67, received her Masters Degree in Biblical Studies from Regent University. She then served for 20 years in the Lancaster County jail ministry and other pastoral centered activities.

Jessie got her farmhouse and beach on the river when she and Bruce retired to “Lawson Bay Farm” on the Rappahannock in 1972. To get away, she cruised as first mate on their sailboat, “Cyrea”, only stopping when her eyesight began to fail at 84.

Predeceased by her husband of 68 years, T. B. H. Anderson, Jr., beloved daughter, Harriet B. “Happy” Pullman, and sister, Elizabeth “Libby” Johnson. Survived by her son, T. Bruce H. Anderson, III (Jill); son-in-law, Wesley “Wes” Pullman; grandchildren, Sallie F. Pullman (Matt Buttrill), Travis G. Pullman ( Jennifer Berglund), Grant Pullman (Emma) , Emily L. Anderson (Slava Krushkal), Thomas B. H. “Tom” Anderson, IV, William A. “Bert” Anderson, and Samuel F. “Sam” Anderson (Valerie Johnson); great grandchildren, Maxwell and Beatrice Pullman, and Sebastian and Michael Krushkal; brother-in-law, Howard Anderson of Lynchburg; sister-in-law, Charlotte Stradford of Columbia, MO and many loving nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury 2:00 p. m. Sunday, November 2, 2014 and interment will be at Noon on November 3rd at Riverview Cemetery in Charlottesville, Va.
