Obituary for Gladys Morris Watson (Morris)

Gladys Morris Watson (Morris)
Gladys Morris Watson peacefully went to her heavenly home on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the age of 82, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born October 1, 1932 to Annie Elizabeth and George Walker Morris in Louisa, Virginia and raised in Fluvanna, Virginia.

Mrs. Watson married the love of her life on July 9, 1957, and moved to Kilmarnock. She and her husband established The Shoe Store on West Church Street in 1958. She was also a licensed cosmetologist and operated the Kilmarnock Beauty Salon.

Mrs. Watson was well known for her flower arranging and gardening talents, often found in her garden until late into her years. She enjoyed dancing and telling stories about “the good ole days” growing up in the foothills of Virginia.

She was a member of the Kilmarnock Baptist Church for 55 years, where she taught Sunday School and enjoyed serving on various committees, especially the flower committee during the Christmas season.

She enjoyed her winter months at their home in Sun City Center, Florida, where she was a member of the Kings Point Country Club.

Mrs. Watson was predeceased by her granddaughter, April Cynthia Watson.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Herman C. (Sam) Watson, Sr.; her sons, Herman C. Watson, Jr of Kilmarnock, Michael W. Watson of Troy, Va.; her daughters and sons- in- law, Vickie L. and Keefe Coburn of Dumfries, Va., Kristie W. and Adam Duryea of Kilmarnock; her stepdaughter, Kathryn Flowe of Charlotte, N.C. and her grandchildren, Samantha Coburn Doble, Katilyn, Cameron, and Connor Duryea, and Autumn Watson. She also leaves behind her beloved Jackie Owens Bunns who lovingly cared for her for many years.

The family is eternally grateful for the numerous care givers from RWC at Home Care, and Commonwealth Assisted Living for their professional care that was given to our mother during her later years.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at the Currie Funeral Home, with interment in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Kilmarnock, VA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. The Reverend John H. Farmer, officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Irvington Baptist Church’s Youth Fund, P.O. Box 417, Irvington, VA 22480
