Obituary for Pauline Tate Ball

Pauline Tate  Ball
BALL, Pauline Tate of Kenbridge, Va. passed in her home on November 22, 2015. Born in Seminole, Oklahoma on August 5, 1924, she was the daughter of Frank and Grace Tate. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, Dr. Warner J. Ball, daughter, Diane Ball; infant son; her sister, Norma Tate Rich of Nashville, Tenn.; and her brother, George Frank Tate of Lake Jackson, Texas.
She is survived by her daughter Norma Ball Burks (Richard) of Lexington, Ky. and son, Warner James Ball Jr. (Cheryl) of Weems, Va; two grandchildren, Candice Burks Rogers (Fon) and David C. Burks (Kera); four great grandchildren, Monroe K. Burks, Lucille Tate Rogers, Evelyn James Rogers, and Grace Elliot Rogers all of Lexington, Ky. She is also survived by a niece, Amy Rich (Eddie); nephews, Tate Rich (Nora) and Bill Rich (Karen) of Nashville, Tenn.
Paula met her husband Warner Ball of Weems, Va. in Oklahoma during WWII. Paula graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1944, and the couple married and moved to San Diego, Calif. where Warner was a Navy dentist until 1946. Paula and Warner raised two children in the town of Kenbridge, Va. where Warner established his dental practice.

Paula served 40 years as choir director and organist for the Kenbridge Baptist Church. She played for numerous weddings in Southside Virginia, taught piano, and provided music programs to area schools. She created and ran a music series at the Kenbridge Baptist Church featuring musicians from the VCU School of Music and local artists.

Paula and Warner spent time on the Rappahannock River in Warner’s home town of Weems. They greatly enjoyed the people of Southside Va., events with the Virginia Dental Association, and traveled to Hawaii and Australia to celebrate Warner's retirement.

Paula remained close to her sister Norma Rich thru out her life, and they traveled together to Australia, The Bahamas, Europe, China, Alaska, and Canada.

Mrs. Ball's family remembers her for her many letters, her picnics, her music, her love of southern cooking, her ritual of afternoon coffee with a newspaper, her politeness even while ill, and the deep love and guidance she gave her family.
The family would like to thank her caregivers, Teresa Hodges, Lillie Shaw, Sharon Shaw and Teresa Overton. A service in her honor will be at Historic Christ Church in Weems, Va.
