Shirley Jean Barton, 76, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at her daughter’s home in Swann Harbor, Heathsville, VA. Jean was born on October 22, 1939. She was the daughter of the late Carrington and Francis Pearson of Lottsburg, Virginia. She was united in marriage to Al Barton on March 26, 1961 in Heathsville, Virginia. He preceded her in death on February 2, 2008. They were married for 47 blissful years.
Jean’s passion was teaching and working with students. She was a paraprofessional for Northumberland County Public Schools from 1974 to 2010.
Jean was a member of New Friendship Baptist in Burgess. Before her illness, she was active in church and volunteered on different committees for many years.
She is survived by her two children; Alva (Wayne) Barton and his fiancé Cathy Earnheart and Kristie McDowell Crenshaw and her husband David Crenshaw; and 5 loving grandchildren: Jessica Dull Davis, Stephanie McDowell, Andrew Barton, Alexandra Barton, and Aaron Barton; and 2 step-grandchildren: Dustin Crenshaw and Connor Neuens.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p. m. Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock. Interment will follow the service at Farnham Baptist Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends 7:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. Friday, June 24 at the funeral home.
