Obituary for Sandra Louise "Sandie" Turner (Turner)

Sandra Louise "Sandie" Turner (Turner)
Sandie L. Turner, 62, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Lancaster, Va. on Sunday, October 23, 2016.

She is survived by Jan Williams, her devoted husband of 29 years, one daughter Carmen Ward of Deltaville and three adored grandchildren, Darrell, Maddie and Ethan as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, a nephew and other relatives.

Sandie was born January 6, 1954 in Richmond, Va. to the late James H. Turner, Jr. and Doris Scroggs Turner. Also predeceasing Sandie was an older brother and two term Henrico County Sheriff, James H. Turner III.

Following her 1972 graduation from Manchester High School, she attended the Virginia School of Cosmetology and then launched a successful career in hair styling which took her to Lancaster County and eventual ownership of Hair Design Studio in Kilmarnock Va.
Sandie's talents and interests extended well beyond her chosen profession. She was a gifted singer who vocalized with the likes of the John Clayton Band, Direct Current, The Little Big Band plus many other bands. She was a stage performer who teamed often at the Lancaster Playhouse with her cousin Amy Lewis whom she loved like a sister.

Sandie was a lover of all animals as witnessed by the small farm where she and Jan lived and raised horses, dogs, cats, chickens and a host of unusual "critters". An avid traditional mounted foxhunter, she was a member of the Caroline Hunt Club.

Sandie was principal caregiver for her late mother which led to her strong support and advocacy for the Alzheimer's Association.

Sandie Turner lived every day to the fullest. She was everybody's friend. Her family and her many friends will undoubtedly miss her big smile, that sparkle in her eye, her talent, energy, personality, sense of humor and especially that unforgettable and boisterous laugh.

A private memorial service as well as a celebration of Sandie's life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Cox Road, Suite 130, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
