Obituary for Doris Benedict "Hank" Lynch (Benedict)

Doris Benedict "Hank" Lynch (Benedict)
Doris (Hank) Lynch passed away with family by her side on April 7, 2017, at the age of 96, which follows the death of her husband, Don Lynch, in 2011 after 67 years of marriage.

Hank was born to Henry and Martha Benedict of Broadalbin, NY on January 23, 1921. She grew up there, skipping a grade, and attended Hartwick College at the age of 16. She then worked at GE where she trained secretaries and caught the eye of her future husband, Don Lynch. She became a stay-at-home mom, raising three children and living in Fort Wayne, IN, where she and Don built their own home; West Caldwell, NJ; Louisville, KY; and, in 1982, Kilmarnock, VA. They loved the Northern Neck area where they made many dear friends and enjoyed sailing and boating in the bay and up and down the Atlantic coast together. They were also involved in philanthropic affairs wherever they lived. Hank was instrumental in starting the recycling project in Kilmarnock. She was also an avid golfer, bridge player, painter and photographer. Calling herself a “golf nut,” she competed for more than 10 years in Kentucky State amateur tournaments, achieving a 13 handicap, and gracing her homes with many prizes.

Hank will be missed by her daughter Joanna Lynch and partner Mark Youdall, son Jeffrey Lynch, daughter Tracy and spouse Richard Krause, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Auditorium in Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury, 132 Lancaster Drive in Irvington, VA at 10 am on Tuesday, April 18, 2017.

Donations may be made to Lancaster Community Library, P. O. Box 850, Kilmarnock, VA 22482 or any other local charity of choice.
