Charles McDonnell Radigan (Mack), 78, died peacefully on November 9, 2017 of cancer at his home in Lancaster, Virginia. Born November 21, 1938 in Washington, D. C. to Charles M. Radigan and Virginia McDonnell Radigan, and reared in Arlington, Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth Knox Radigan; his sister, Mary Joe Barrazotto; his brother, Thomas Patrick Radigan; his daughter, Katherine Knox Radigan; his son, Joseph McDonnell Radigan and his four grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth Radigan, Knox Charles Radigan, Lucy R. Bishop, and Cooper Joseph Radigan. He is also survived by his 6 month old golden, Libby. Mack was preceded in death by his brother. William Michael Radigan. He was graduated from St. John's College High School in Washington, D. C. and from Dartmouth College. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Army and after his service, attended and was graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law. He was admitted to the Bar of Virginia in 1964 and to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Virginia shortly thereafter. He had 50 years of service at the State Bar. He entered in the practice of law with his father's firm in Arlington. In 1974, he formed his own firm in Arlington, practicing for 42 years in State and Federal Courts in Northern Virginia. During this period, he was active in his community. He was President of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce in 1977. He was a Rotarian and served as a Board member and chair of the Arlington Salvation Army. He was a member of Washington Golf Country Club, a golfer and Board member and President of that club. He also belonged to Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club, Mid-Ocean Club, and Farmington Country Club. He was a Board member of the Arlington Red Cross, a Board member of the American Red Cross Regional Blood Program (portions of Virginia, West Virginia. Maryland and the District of Columbia) and later served as Chair of that program. He was asked by the Chairman of the Arlington Country Board of Supervisors to explore whether Arlington Citizens would support a community foundation and whether a community foundation was a good idea. He took on the challenge and served for 3 years as the first Board President for the Arlington Community Foundation. He drafted their articles of incorporation and assisted in establishing the Foundation as A 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, created one of their first scholarship funds, and guided the Foundation through its initial years. In retirement, Charles (Mack) lived on the water near Kilmarnock, Virginia. He was a avid golfer and spent his winters in Fort Myers, Florida at The Vines in Estero. Funeral services will be 11:00 a. m. Saturday, November 18, 2017 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Kilmarnock, Virginia. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Washington Golf Country Club in Arlington, Virginia. Currie Funeral Home, LLC of Kilmarnock is handling the arrangements.
