HAZEL, Louis J., Lieutenant Colonel, U. S. Army (retired) of Reedville, Va. passed away on January 23, 2018. He was born in Pittsburgh and was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Hazel, Senior and Marie Baumbach Hazel; and his brother Jack. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth (Labrenz); three sons, Gary, David, and Keith; and his brothers Al and Tom. After his graduation from Mount Lebanon High School in 1948, Louis enlisted in the United States Army. He graduated from Officer Candidate School in Fort Sill, Oklahoma in 1952, after which he proudly served his country for 21 years with tours of duty at Fort Devens, Massachusetts, and in Japan, Germany, and Turkey, and finally at the Pentagon. After his retirement from the military, he continued his career at the Pentagon as a civilian employee of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
