Sue

" Dig Sue,......you carried this name........."Dig Sue"............lovingly as I was a mere child and could not say "Big Sue" successfully. They say that there are no accidents, thus I did "dig you, more then you will ever know. Only 19 years between us made our relationship respectful as niece to aunt but fringing on sisters. Some of my favorite things I have shared with you like eating crabs on the Carb Point porch. Or dancing around in silly hats made of newspaper singing Happy Birthday at the top of our lungs. Teaching my cousins.......your sons.......to shag in your living room while records spun on my little pink record player. Riding on the High Weeze and sitting on your dock catching fish. You opened your home to a budding teenager full of hormones while my parents were in foreign lands. You knew how to check up on me and remind me what was proper and expected of a southern lady. You smiled and laughed at my stories and sometimes shook your head in disbelief. What I love so deeply about your presence in my life was that you were the wind beneath my wings and at times I was your wind. I don't recall you ever talking about your accomplishments. Graduating from Linden Hall or William and Mary. Your love of history or Lee family genealogy. Your gift of remembering family stories and brining ancestors to life. Your ability to connect with people. Thank you for your smile.........your deep laugh. For being Uncle Dudley's Miss Gracie. For catching the pun. .Öh Yes" ...you would say and then giggle some more. I told you when I last kissed you that you had been a wonderful daughter, mother, wife, sister, and aunt. I know you loved me and you know I loved you. I invision you now with that little step of yours dancing on clouds and in the arms of Uncle Dudley finding love and peace. A toast to you my dearest 'Dig Sue". I love you, Carol-Winter
